One scam that has been particularly disturbing for locksmiths recently has been the targeting of potentially vulnerable properties by thieves in South London. Thieves pretend to distribute marketing materials and then check how secure windows and doors are. They then put fake 24/7 locksmith stickers on doors or windows to mark the property as having weak security or being empty. Once marked up, the property is a prime target for burglary. The stickers are so small, that many homeowners are unlikely to even notice them. This scam is a real worry for me as a genuine South London locksmith and I wanted to make sure all my customers, friends and family are aware of the stickers shown in this blog. If you have noticed a sticker on your property, make sure you report it to the police immediately. You can read more about this scam here. Incidentally, don’t forget the Police can now be contacted by dialling 101 if it’s not an emergency.
